I am a firm believer in creating the home you want now! Here are 6 ways you can update your dated home, without remodeling.
We spend so much time in our homes, and we deserve to have a space that we love.
Purchasing a home is a huge accomplishment, and you should be proud! But I get not being totally in love with your space.
Here are some ways you can update your home without remodeling but still creating a space you’ll love.

1. Paint
Paint everything, seriously!
Paint the walls, cabinets, furniture, paint anything that you don’t like, if it will still function. Paint will completely change the look of your home. It is a great way to give your home the modern update that you are looking for, and save money.
If your budget does not allow for new light fixtures, decor or hardware, then you can paint it as well!
Painting is typically an easy job, and you can complete it yourself. I tend to choose neutral colors, but you can really get creative here.

2. Replace light fixtures
I know I said you can paint it, and you totally can, but if your budget allows you should replace the really outdated ones (like the dreaded “boob” light”).
It is typically a simple project you can do yourself in one day, and you are able to choose lights that fit your design style.
I typically like simple flush mount ceiling lights, and they are usually inexpensive and provide a lot of light.
3. Replace your carpet
Whether you choose to do new carpet, vinyl floor or sprucing up the concrete floor, either way it is guaranteed to look better.
I recommend a vinyl or laminate floor for a more updated look, plus these types of floors require less maintenance and are easier to clean than the other options.
4. Replace outlets and outlet covers
These tend to look dingy and dated if they are not white (or match your wall color). Replace them with new outlets and covers for a subtle but big difference.
5. Upgrade your faucets
Faucets are fairly inexpensive and there are numerous options to match your decor style.
6. Update your hardware
Updating cabinet pulls and door handles/hardware to make will create a cohesive and modern look.
